Flea Control

A Safe Powder.

Diatomaceous earth mixed with powdered chrysanthemum parthenium (pyrethrum) can make a safe and effective flea powder, according to an article in DOG FANCY's June 1990 issue. Author Maryann Akers-Hanson wrote: "Dust the powder into your dog's coat (do this outside so the dust won't irritate your or your dog's lungs). Allow it to remain for 15 minutes, then brush or comb out the dead or anesthetized fleas."

This may be a safer method of flea control for owners concerned with the toxicity of commercial flea-control products. Remember to use all products only according to label directions. Labeling is regulated by the government and requires studies for efficacy and safety. The label also tells about possible side effects.
