Canine Life Expectancy

Smaller dogs can be expected to live longer lives.

Longevity is largely related to size, with small dogs living longest. (Sixteen years is not unusual for toy breeds.) A Gerrnan Shepherd and the Collie mix can be expected to live 12 to 14 years. Studies of the canine aging process have revolutionized the veterinary care, dietary management and activity level needed at each stage of growth, so today's dogs live longer, healthier lives.

Annual veterinary checkups and immunizations are a must to keep all dogs healthy, but when dogs become senior citizens, veterinarians generally recommend twice-yearly checkups. Also, you can feed your dogs a top-quality dog food and make sure they receive regular exercise to ensure that they live long, happy lives.
