To find out the current asking price for a purebred dog, contact several breeeders in your area, and be clear about what you want. An 18-month-old show dog will fetch a higher price than a 10-week-old pet. Working or hunting stock will also cost more than a pet, as will a breeding-quality bitch. Breeders often sell pets with a spay/neuter contract and may issue a partial refund if veterinary proof of the procedure is submitted, or they will factor the cost of the procedure into the price.

Some breed clubs will also mention a price range.
